SBIR Insider Alert May 22, 2011
IMPORTANT NEWS! - We have just learned that the House will be voting (probably Tuesday) on the Senate's SBIR Continuing Resolution (S.990), to extend the SBIR/STTR/CPP programs "as is", for 1 year, expiring May 31, 2012. The bill should be brought up under suspension and may be subject to voice vote. If anyone requests a recorded vote from the floor of the House (and I greatly suspect that Nydia Velasquez will), a two-thirds majority will be required to pass the bill. Every vote counts! If you want to keep SBIR/STTR/CPP going, I urge you to call your Representative's Washington DC office, ask to speak to their small business legislative assistant (LA), and urge them to pass the S.990 CR in it's current 1 year form. Stress the importance of this program to your company and jobs. If the LA isn't available, leave a voice mail. You can call the U.S. Capital switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Representative's office. If you are not sure who your representative is, they can find it for you by zip code. In a response to our last Insider, Roland Tibbetts, the father of the SBIR program said, that a one year CR should provide the time for the congress to do a proper SBIR reauthorization. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that the last eleven short term CRs, have not (my comment not Roland's). If a recorded vote is called for, we will provide you with a full roll call report of who voted against your program. The ball is in your court. I'll let you know how things go.
Sincerely,
